Abstract

This review highly commends the new monograph by V.V. Mikhaylov on international relations in the Middle East during World War I. Mikhaylov takes a comprehensive approach to the issue and uses a representative range of Russian and foreign sources allowing him to objectively and fully demonstrate the influence of European powers on the politics, economy and ideology of the Ottoman Empire in the early twentieth century, which in the end motivated Turkey to join the Central Powers of Germany and Austria- Hungary in World War I.
