Abstract

This article dwells on Yakut vocabulary of common Turkic origin naming animal integument and its types, compared with the Old Turkic and modern Turkic languages in the historical aspect. Special attention is paid to the lexical and semantic features of lexical parallels for the thematic group of stems under study, as well as to the semantic transitions from the Proto-Turkic system to the modern form. It was revealed that names for elements of animal integument in the Yakut language are found in most Turkic languages and belong to stable word classes in terms of semantic meaning and stem structure. Within the framework of phonological analysis, the author determined phonostructural types and features of the phonological system of lexical reflexes. Further, the author traced changes in the phonostructure of lexemes from the Proto-Turkic to the modern form according to the areal types of Turkic languages in a comparative historical aspect with the Yakut language, which reflects the break-up of the proto-language. The phonological analysis of lexical parallels revealed that Chuvash vocabulary designating animal integument in many ways stands farther from the Yakut language than that of other Turkic languages. The novelty of this research lies in the fact that Yakut names for animal integument have not been studied before. Such studies on Yakut vocabulary in the comparative historical aspect can improve the existing results and open up new lines of research into the history of Turkic languages.
