Abstract

The article studies the manifestation of archaic sacred heritage in the landscape-topographical semiosphere of historical towns in Northern Russia. The author develops a “cosmogonic model of townplanning” and highlights the outstanding role of the myth and “building sacrifice” ritual in the process of construction, maintenance and preservation of the town’s sacred space. The author pays special attention to the study of the “natural frame” elements of the northern town.
