Abstract

The article presents an analysis of Pomor and Norwegian trapping on Svalbard in the first half of the 19th century. The authors describe the historical conditions that contributed to the economic activity of the representatives of both countries on the archipelago, show general and specific features in the organization of trapping by Norwegian and Russian entrepreneurs, draw attention to the reasons for the reduction of Russian trapping on the islands of the archipelago.
