Abstract

Modern ethnocultural studies single out two main approaches suggesting different understanding of culture: the essentialist and constructivist ones. The article aims to examine the differences between these approaches in terms of understanding the relation between the concepts of “cultureˮ and “placeˮ, as well as to consider the problems arising within the essentialist approach due to its particular understanding of the above mentioned relationship.

Keywords

essentialism, constructivism, culture, place, indigenous peoples.
