Abstract

The Western market-based enterprise management system suggests a postmodern concept with a vector from work as a virtue to labour as a curse. Russian mentality rejects the eschatological principle of relationships and offers an existential approach to restore the balance of power in a society where work as a virtue will hold pride of place. The Western scenario of market consumerist development of society has demonstrated utter futility of Social Darwinist attitudes. The Soviet scenario, with care for the elderly and the sick, children and pregnant women, has shown the utopian nature of socioeconomic and political ideals. Thus, there is a need for a third way, with a mixed state governance system, where due attention will be paid to communitarian cohorts capable of “salinating” the “risk society” and ensuring consciental security. The comparative analysis of the Western and the Russian scenarios of the development of society invites us to reflect upon an institutional trap. One should not live as a frog that is voluntarily moving right into the snake’s mouth: the frog thinks that the stirring forked tongue is a midge and jumps to get it, but falls into the “trap”. Similarly, the Russian society, guided by the theoretical developments of Fukuyama and Huntington, believes that the market system is universal for all nations and jumps into the “melting pot”. The scientific novelty of this paper lies in the search for a social system capable of establishing equitable relations in the society. The soteriological approach helps us to set the metaphysical goal of taking the curse off labour. Phenomenological reduction allows us to free the mind from the naturalistic orientation of materialistic dependence. The synergetic theory and the dynamical chaos theory provide insights into the possible transformation of the consumerist society into the communitarian society.
