Abstract

The relevance of this research is determined by the need for a philosophical analysis of the effect produced by globalization processes and the media as an element of the information society on public consciousness in the modern, post-industrial era. It is known that the growing role of information in the life of society and developing technologies lead to social change. Today, everyday life is not only saturated with information through the use of technical devices or modern technologies, but also contributes to the modification of both social life and public consciousness. The potential for the development of public consciousness is largely determined by the scale of information, knowledge, and globalization processes in the society. This paper identifies the role of globalization and the manipulative practices of the information society, as well as the trends of their formation and their effects on public consciousness in the modern era. Moreover, the author’s approach to the concept of public consciousness is introduced. Within the framework of philosophical analysis, the research reveals that globalization and the media as an element of the information society modify public consciousness, namely, the system of values, the individual’s psychology, his ideas about the world and his attitude towards it. To study this issue, the author utilized the methods of analysis, synthesis, systematization, generalization and comparison. This paper makes a contribution to the methodological basis of social philosophy, psychology, and sociology. In the course of the research, the author adhered to the proposition that the problem of the post-industrial era as a factor in the formation of public consciousness grows in importance as society changes. Having covered all spheres of human existence, the noosphere has entered a new phase of evolution. The symbiosis of man and high technology is able to drastically change our civilization in the nearest future. Therefore, it is оf utmost importance to continue studying the new factors forming public consciousness in the post-industrial era.
