Abstract

Russian religious philosophy of the late 19th and early 20th centuries occupies an important place in the history of Russian humanitarian, political and philological culture. The terminology of the texts of Russian religious philosophy is an important issue both in the theoretical and historical-linguistic aspects. Of particular interest is the study of author’s terminology, created by each thinker within his own philosophical system. This article aimed to identify and characterize the content of the notion author’s philosophical term. The author of this article develops and concretizes theoretical propositions about author’s term system and author’s term that had been expressed in Russian linguistics earlier as applied to Russian philosophical texts of the period under study. The following key features of a philosophical term are briefly described: determinability by the whole text, possible presence of several generic identifiers, high probability of the existence of the subjective component of meaning, as well as unambiguity within a particular term system. Further, the paper analyses the correlation between the concepts subjective component of meaning and author’s neologism. In addition, the paper suggests a classification of term formation techniques and related structural and semantic types of author’s terms in Russian philosophy of the period under study. Based on this classification, a conclusion is made that the notion of author’s term encompasses lexemes heterogeneous by their method of formation; their author’s origin can be manifested either at the level of content or at the level of content and form. For the first time, a theoretically grounded definition of author’s philosophical term of the period under study is given: it is a special lexeme verbalizing a philosophical concept and formed by morphological, syntactic or semantic means, and whose meaning can be determined only within the philosophical term system of a particular author. The research contributes to the theory of lexicology by expanding the framework of categories of Russian lexicology within theoretical and applied terminology. The results of the analysis can be used in studies on the history of Russian literary language, on lexicology, lexical semantics, terminology, stylistics, as well as in cultural studies, philosophy and other spheres of the humanities.
