Abstract

This article analyzes the ways to enhance foreign students’ speech from the point of view of the communicative approach. The author suggests communicative teaching techniques and conditions improving language and speech skills when solving specific methodological tasks aimed at active practical use of vocabulary and grammatical patterns allowing one to reproduce and transform statements. Special attention is given to forming students’ positive attitude towards learning Russian. The author believes that a clear structure of linguistic material will allow foreign students to correctly apply their communication skills in specific speech situations. All language skills are formed gradually, in certain order and following certain requirements. Grammatical material is organized by the principle of semantic categories, speech acts being chosen in accordance with the speaker’s intention. The learning material is organized in such a way that the studied linguistic phenomena are included in various forms of utterances in different situations of in-class and out-of-class communication. The paper emphasizes the idea that developed communicative competence of students should be creative and avoid stereotypes. Exploring the organization of grammatical phenomena, the author takes complex sentences with object clauses as an example to study the ways of speech skills formation.
