Abstract

Model structuring as a process comprised of several stages and levels is a modern and constantly growing scientific understanding of reality. This research aims to identify specific features and complexity of modelling as an active creative process focused on rational cognitive activity and practical implementation in the society. When modelling, the functional component of a model depends on the specific character of scientific understanding and the application field. The research presents model types classified according to certain criteria. Thought experiment as a special type of modelling represents various complementary capabilities of thinking: goal-setting, imagination, patterning, and logical methods. It acts both as an effective means of obtaining new knowledge about the world and as a theoretical process to test the existing knowledge by creating idealized objects and manipulating them in simulated situations. Thought experiments study an idealized object being a model of a real object. This research has scientific and practical significance due to the theoretical, gnoseological, and cognitive orientation of research into modelling and its role in human life. The author uses the systems and analytical approaches to study this issue and comes to the following conclusion. Integration and differentiation of model making and modelling, their dynamics and statics are in a direct relationship. Thought experiment as a part of the modelling process is an experiment in the sphere of consciousness, with the thought being dominant. This study is a significant contribution to the logic and methodology of social philosophy, social pedagogy and psychology to be introduced into education.
