Abstract

This article aims to structure the process of social adaptation in order to develop a unified methodology for research and formation of mechanisms for managing this process in social life. The authors define social adaptation as a process of personal resolution of a contradiction arising between the person and the social system during his/her life and resulting in the development and formation of personality due to the experience acquired in the course of solving this contradiction. The article shows that the adaptation process as a whole is actualized by a problematic situation, which is a contradiction between the person and society. Such contradictions are unavoidable and irremovable, since they are the source of the development of all the living, including personality. It is only by resolving various contradictions that arise in the course of one’s life that a person acquires the necessary experience allowing him/her to fulfil and assert him/herself in the social environment and become its full-fledged member. Further, it is noted here that social adaptation can be studied methodologically from the standpoint of two aspects: macro- and microanalysis. In addition, some historical (during the collapse of the Soviet Union) and modern (NBIC-technologies) adaptation problems are identified. The main stages of the social adaptation process are: stage of the past (acquired adaptation resources, adaptability); stage of the present (choosing a strategy of adaptive behaviour); stage of the future (adaptedness – the result of adaptation). Further, we describe each of the stages and suggest a structural-temporal approach to the study of the adaptive cycle by singling out key mental characteristics of the adapting person at each stage. Such a structuring of the adaptation process allows us to outline a new methodology and new directions for developing a mechanism of point management of social adaptation under certain living conditions.
