Abstract

The article analyzes the dynamics of terrorist acts and crimes of terrorist nature in Russia in 2005– 2013 as well as the results of fighting terrorism in the country in recent years. Elimination of the terrorist threat is a priority both in the domestic and foreign policy of Russia. Using a large body of information and providing examples from the activities of the CIS and SCO member states, the author dwells on Russia’s international counter-terrorist work. Further, the work of the National Anti-Terrorist Committee and the Federal Operation Headquarters Against Terrorism in 2012–2013 is analyzed. In addition, specific features of underground terrorist groups’ activity in the North Caucasus are described and counter-terrorist measures are studied as one of the factors strengthening national security. In conclusion the author suggests some measures aimed to intensify counter-terrorism, paying special attention to the ways and means of resisting religious radicalism and the ideology of terrorists and extremists.
