Abstract

This article presents, from the standpoint of historicism, a retrospective of the evolution of ideas of social order, self-organization and self-development of social systems from ancient times to the present day as a methodological framework for the study of society. Two directions of research into social order are singled out here: the classical and the non-classical/post-non-classical, each of them having its own scientific basis. It is noted that the tendencies for destruction and degradation of many public institutions, observed over the centuries, were perceived in society as natural processes that are hard to control. Fortunately, scientists proposed a number of concepts dealing with the establishment of public order and self-government. This paper deals with the transition from social order to the fundamental paradigm of self-organization of complex systems: synergetics. Further, it reveals the socio-humanistic aspect of autopoiesis and presents the author’s vision of the self-organization mechanism involving the interaction of two components: objective conditions and subjective factors. Moreover, material production, as the basis of self-development of socioeconomic systems, is an objective prerequisite for self-organization. The subjective factor affects the quality of state and municipal management, as well as the ability to effectively use the accumulated social potential and resist destructive tendencies. A conclusion is made that the understanding of complex social systems cannot be complete without interdisciplinary approaches, and the most popular method for studying nonlinear processes of modern social world is synergetics. The results obtained extend the theoretical and methodological foundations for a deeper and more detailed analysis of social technology of society’s self-development.
