Abstract

The article presents the results of the research carried out in the Research Institute of Continuous Teacher Education, The Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia. The research revealed the formation and development stages of multilevel pedagogical education in Russia from the 1990s to the present day. Five stages were described in terms of their achievements and problems connected with updating of the whole system of teacher training.
